Coby IR850 Wireless Internet Radio System (Black) Poor product and poor customer support

Worked for five days, now a brick after software update, I got this as a gift and have been using it for five days. Coby offers a software update on the radio menu itself...after the update, the unit is dead. What a waste of money and a waste of landfill space.

Their service refuses to repair this--in fact, they seem to be incapable of fixing this other than swapping a whole new unit, which means you're paying for a new replacement unit.

If this is how Coby treats customers, and if this is how unreliable their software updates are, I wouldn't buy or trust anything with their name on it.
Good Sound But One Major Problem, I bought this radio to replace the IR825 which had good sound but I found it too hard for anyone to operate using just the buttons on top and a 2 line display. This radio also has only buttons on top and no knobs but is easy to use and the big display shows everything you need to see. The buttons are not lighted though and are sometimes difficult to find in the dark. It also has a remote.
I also have 2 other internet radios, an IR808 similar to the Kaito IR-168 and an RCA/AR RIR205 from Audiovox to compare this to. While the RCA uses Vtuner for it's portal and the IR-168 uses IR168's own site this radio uses the Frontier Silicon wifi radio portal but it's list of stations seems to be based on Vtuner. Frontier Silicon, in the U.K., designed the radio's processor module, wrote it's firmware and also provides the website for radio makers and owners to use. When I first opened the box and got the radio out and plugged it in, it connected to wifi and got a station right away which was a surprise since I had a lot of trouble getting the first 2 other radios to work at all. I did have to update my wifi router from an old 802.11B to a D-Link DI624 G model a while back though which is a big part of why it worked right out of the box.
The radio has two fairly large speakers for good sound and is bigger than it looks in the photos so it might not fit on some small shelves or night stands.
The wifi antenna is just a small J shaped etching on one end of the processor board inside the radio but seems to receive OK. It could be replaced with a high gain external antenna for better reception if necessary.
Not ready for Prime Time !, I just want to confirm what others have experienced in terms of the display. It does fade away to almost nothing after few months of use.

The radio has great features and good sound, but if you can't see the user interface and menus, it is almost worthless. I dare say this is one of those products that COBY knew has some design issues, but rather than recall the product, they flooded the market with low prices to get rid of the inventory.

That was a bad move on Coby's part. Just creates ill will from the consumers towards the Coby brand name. I was always thought of Coby as a low end Electronics brand, but this product was so different from many Internet Radios I has seen. It sounded great in the store and the display was nice, so I took a chance.

Big Mistake... I actually gave mine away after using it for about 2 months because there was no way to dim the display and I wanted to use it for a clock radio in the bedroom. Little did I know that it had a self dimming feature. The problem is the dimming is permanent.

Stay away from this product unless you want a brick or a one station radio.
Very Disappointed, (What's this?)
Better than expected, (What's this?) I bought this because I needed a new alarm clock and since I enjoy several internet based stations I thought I would take a chance and try an internet radio out.
When I opened the box, it is a bit bigger than I really wanted but I can live with that. I turned it on and went through the wireless internet set up with no problems. We use WEP encryption and fortunately I had written the key down when I set my laptop up. I would definitely advise having that on hand when you set up. It was a bit of a pain having to navigate around with the up, down, left, and right buttons but I only have to do it once so I can live with that.
As soon as I connected to the internet I was informed that there was an update available. it downloaded and installed with no problems.
I then went looking for some of my favorite stations. I started with a couple of BBC stations I like. No luck. I was told that the Media format was not supported. I tried looking for another station that I like (Planet Rock in the UK, in case you are interested). Navigating the menu can be a bit tedious (which is why I gave "Ease of use" a 4 star rating) but once you are used to it, it is not too bad. I set a few more stations and tried BBC again. The others worked but not BBC. Adding stations to the presets is easy enough. I will have to see if 10 stations will be enough. It probably will be.
I looked for my local FM station. It would be nice if the numbers on the remote could set numbers on the device but I will suffer through the up and down arrow. I found my station pretty quickly and added it to the preset.
Not worth $100, I would have a much lower opinion of the Coby IR850 had I not spent only $20 for it (thank you, Sears 2010 clearance!) Long story short, it has done what I wanted it to do. I can hear many of my favorite internet radio streams and podcasts on it, as well as my MP3 collection. The sound quality is okay, not great, and it has a nice alarm clock too.

However, as many others have mentioned, it has some severe flaws. Again, I only paid $20 for mine. Had I spent more I would be furious. I was lucky to not have my LEDs go out, but they flash badly when the radio is on.
Poor product and poor customer support, (What's this?) DO NOT BUY ANY COBY PRODUCTS!!!
This radio model is a defective product and by other reviews a known defective product. The LED display WILL burn out in a short time. One of my 4 IR850 radios burnt out in 2 days the second one in 2 months the third one in 6 months and the forth one in 8 months. The first 2 were replaced by the retailers to make up my second 2 units. Contacting Coby to discuss this known problem, I was informed that there is not a problem with the IR850 as they do not have a recall on them. I said to them that just because they don't recall them does not mean a problem is not there. Coby has rejected any responsibility for any problem. This is not the only Coby product that I have found that that Coby has said "There is no problem". I have a surround sound/DVD/radio in my travel trailer that needed to be replaced 3 times by the dealer for the same problem each time. So Coby is off my list of products to purchase.
Black Hole, (What's this?) P-poor planning in a black box. It receives well and doesn't sound bad but the human interface is a failure. After you connect to a station the clock doesn't come back as in your car. You'll spend the 1st 15 minutes looking for the on/off switch. Setting the alarms will keep you up all night so why bother. Clock is so dim it can't be seen. Now the LCD screen is flashing continuously, like spending the night in a seedy motel.
Not only wouldn't I buy this again but from all the things I've read about their customer service I wouldn't deal with this company again. Boycott Coby and put some Chinese out of work!
Amazon should be ashamed for consorting with these people. The only star it gets is the one on their flag.
Great! Except for one thing :(, I own 3 of these.. yes 3. They all work great and sound good too.
A Bit of Advice...., This Coby could have been a great internet radio. It has good sound,& works well in general, except.....

The dimming of the display, as many here have said. This is not an "IF", but a "WHEN" sort of thing. Mine actually lasted longer than most - a little over 2 years. After a year it looked somewhat dimmer, then started to flicker, and it steadily got progressively more dim and now the display is totally dark. When I noticed this happening, I made sure all my presets were set so I would be able to use the remote to change the stations.

However, I found a way to see the display when this happens. If you shine a flashlight towards the display (You have to experiment to find the right angle to shine it), you can actually see the characters in the display, however faintly. Then the radio is still usable, and you can at least program the presets for the remote.

Grace Digital GDI-IR2550P Pandora Wi-Fi Internet Radio Don't Buy

Good product - great selection of stations, (What's this?) I use this as alarm clock and have have it tied into a Bose radio aux. I have really enjoyed it and the variety of music, talk, and drama it is capable of providing. It was very easy to hook up and, using the internet, easy to choose your favorite stations. It is somewhat difficult to lay in the favorite stations using the tuner but after some effort it got easier to do.

The fact that Live 365 is available along with the Reciva portal puts this over the top compared with other manufactures.
Happy Customers, I listen to Pandora all the time at work on my computer, and my family was often listening to it at home through our home theater system (via our playstation 3.) That set up at home was inconvenient for a few reasons. Mostly when I want to listen to music its when I'm in the kitchen cooking, or when we are eating dinner (again in the kitchen) so it wasn't ideal to be playing music through our audio system which is in the livingroom, especially when someone wanted to watch TV while I cooked. So I asked for this product for my birthday and my whole family loves it. It makes it much easier for us to resist the temptation to watch TV through dinner. Having the music is pleasant but doesn't prevent us from having conversation too.

I'm not a discerning audio quality consumer, just a regular gal who likes listening to music, and from my perspective the sound quality is great and the system plays louder than we would ever want to play it. My only complaint is that when I wish when I turned it on it went automatically to the Pandora station I was listening to the last time I had it on. I always have to switch it to Pandora and then select a station. Granted that process only takes about 15 seconds, but I do wish I could just push the on button and be done with it.
Internet radio as part of home theater system, (What's this?) I purchased this internet radio to be part of our stereo system for the house. I have purchased two other internet radios for our summer house and our bedroom and really loved the clarity and stability so decided to add one to the stereo system to get better reception for AM mostly and Pandora. One of the internet radios that we had purchased already was a Grace so I was familiar with its performance and was satisfied. The features that I was interested in for this GDI-IR2550P was Pandora and the stated ability to hook it into a home entertainment system. It took me only about 5 minutes to hook it up and it began self searching for the wireless network. I put in our code, which is somewhat tedious but it worked fine. The sound is about as expected for a radio of this size and price but since I was hooking it into my home theater system, that wasn't important to me. Overall, the system works as expected. I like the "My stuff" feature so I can quickly get to the precoded stations, etc. I was hoping that the remote for the theater system would be able to turn the radio on but it is apparently on a different frequency but that is minor. I think it is an excellent value to price purchase and I would purchase it again either as a stand alone radio or as a low cost addition to a home theater system.
Great... while it lasted, (What's this?) Been an Amazon customer for years and have never posted a review, but I'm so disappointed in this product I'm prompted to post my first review ever.

This Grace Pandora Internet radio was, I though, excellent. Setup is a bit tedious as other reviewers have noted, but it's straightforward and only has to be done once. Considering what it is, the sound wasn't bad at all (keep in mind that a lot of the sound quality is dependent on what your Internet music source is), and I was extremely pleased with the Pandora stations I created.

But after only a couple months, this $128 radio died for no apparent reason. No power surge (it's in a protected outlet), no abuse, nothing spilled into it, never knocked off the shelf, etc., it just died mid-song. All that's on the display is a series of lighted squares. I went to the Grace website and followed their instructions to do a master reset, which I performed several times to no effect. It's just dead, with nothing but lighted squares on the display.

I wanted to like this radio -- and, in fact, did for the few months it operated -- but I'd recommend a more reliable brand.
Grace Digital Wi-fi Internet radio review, (What's this?)
good stereo, a little uars to set up, (What's this?) The product arrived quickly and in good shape. The set-up was very confusing because you have to go to some website to link it with your Pandora account. The instructions for that seem to have been written by a non native English speaker. Now that it's linked, it is easy to use and sounds great.
I LOVE the Grace Digital radio that I purchased via AMAZON.com !, (What's this?) It does it all! I live in an area that doesn't get good radio or TV reception - my only option is CABLE. My wi-fi system for the computer works for this radio too!. Much better than streaming stations thru the laptop.

I usually dread setting up anything with multiple options/buttons/dials. Even for me - this was a snap ! I now can listen to radio from all over the world.

You can set-up many of your favorite stations on your computer / via the Grace Reciva website (this is the easiest) and they will magically populate onto your radio - and your Pandora playlists transfer over with ease.

I don't have room for a big system - and I love the small size that sits inconspicuously on top of a counter. Good sound too. MUCH better than listening via laptop. If one wants concert hall surround sound, it can be hooked to a bigger speaker system - but for me - the one in the radio is more than adequate.

I've never even tried to use the remote. (I put on a channel and listen all day). If I'm listening to a Pandora playlist and a song just GRABS me - I welcome the exercise expended in getting up and punching the thumbs up button.

I haven't tried to set the alarms either - because I don't need more 'alarm' in my life.

This is the BEST $125 I've spent in years! I'd recommend this to anyone.
Don't Buy, (What's this?) Radio unable to maintain connectivity to wi-fi eventhough signal strength is above 80%. Getting tech support from Grace is somewhat a problem however when technician finally responded by e-mail to try a "factory reset" this still did not resolve problem.
Grace Digital GDI-IR2550P, (What's this?) I would not recommend this radio. It is a horrible radio and saying that I am disappointed is a vast understatement.

    1. The buttons are located on the front of a very light radio making any selections a two handed operation. One to hold the radio and the other to press the button.

    2. The menu selection dial is jumpy and inconsistent. Navigating the menus is an exercise in patience and frustration.

    3. The speaker is unacceptable. I could not make out what the talk stations are talking about. I finally had to hook a set of cheap self powered computer speakers up to the earphone jack to create acceptable audio.
amazing, owned for 1 week. so far so good. we live in fm desert. wife ecstatic. was concerned about quality of sound.no worry. 5 star item, 5 star delivery.

Grace Digital GDI-IRA500 Wireless Internet Radio Adapter Featuring Pandora, NPR and SIRIUS best product for the money

need to unplug and reset this regularly!, Only used for a few days and on the first day when I had turned it on only for the second time it said i was only receiving 10% wifi signal. I thought it was my new wifi router but our laptop and x-box was receiving full signal. I had remembered an amazon reviewer who said they had to unplug theirs and replug it to get wifi to come in again. So when I proceeded to do this guess what I got?: 92% to 100% of wifi signal. After reviewing other comparable units in this price range they all seem to have their own quirks so I will plan on keeping this radio. It has a headphone jack. You can program the screen to different levels of dim. There is a sleep timer. It is compact. Again, every few days I have to unplug it from the back and replug it so it can reset and will read my wifi signal properly.
You get what you pay for..., (What's this?) I've had a Logitech squeezebox for a year and love it.
Unfortunately, my wife and kids love it too and keep taking it out of the bedroom to use in the kitchen. I purchased the Grace IRA500 to replace the Squeezebox on my nightstand. Keep in my mind, I (we) only use this for Pandora radio function.
Taking it out of the box you notice how inexpensive it feels - I though plastic was plastic but my Logitech unit feels substantial and this unit is the opposite. The menus were a pain to use as was setting up the wifi...not difficult but not easy.
sound quality was OK. The biggest gripe, which eventually led to returning this radio, was that nearly every other song would not get played completely.
Love it, (What's this?) I just recently discovered the concept of an "internet radio" and wanted one right away because I live in an area geographically and culturally different from what I am used to and I wanted to be able to listen to "my music".
Impressive Quality (Minor Design Gripe), (What's this?) This was so easy to setup and the sound is great! I plugged it into my Bose Wave Radio and I don't think it has ever sounded so good! Tying it to Pandora was pretty quick and easy and I love the variety of music I can get with it. I especially love Surf Radio! Where I live there are no jazz stations, now I have easy access to 460 from all over the world!!! My one and only gripe is that the dials on the unit are really hard to turn. It would have been nice if the indentation were deeper or they were rubber coated. Thankfully, the remote has all of the same functions.
worked for awhile, I bought this internet radio for our doctor's office in a Dallas hospital. It worked okay for about a year or so. We used it to listen to one favorite channel on Sirius radio. For the last 3 or so months, though, the music would stop randomly. The problem is the radio, which connects using WIFI, would for some mysterious reason connect to a hospital WIFI channel used for hospital guests, instead of the much stronger and security-enabled WIFI router belonging to our office. No matter how many times we tried to set it to our router, it kept going back (after various time periods) to the hospital guest channel. Unfortunately, the GDI-IRA500 does not have a wired LAN connection, so we had no reliable way to connect to the internet. We decided to toss out this and any other Grace Digital product when we tried to get support. Grace Digital has NO support phone number.
best product for the money, (What's this?)
sounds great wifi stability and app are disappointing, (What's this?) I bought this for my wife for Christmas this year. She loves listening to Rock radio but reception at our house is poor. I also thought that getting Pandora, which we have on our phones, would be a great addition. Well the set up was easy enough once I followed the directions properly and I was able to set up several stations that she likes including Pandora without much difficulty. The sound quality is really good.
Sound quality, (What's this?) I was hoping for better sound quality. This radio has analog outputs only, sonic quality is very dependent on the quality of the digital to analog converter and radio stream bit rate. I would not purchase another internet radio without digital output so that the sound is converted through a higher quality component. Also, in the off position the clock readout is too small.
An Ideal Gift For The Music-Starved Person, Having an eclectic taste in music and living rurally don't mix. For years I have suffered--either good radio stations don't come in clearly or local ones come in clear as a bell, but are just noise to my ears. Then came Pandora--too bad our computer is located in the basement. Unless I want to sit down there, music options still remain limited.

My kids are astute--they know two things--mom loves music, but is also technologically impaired. I received this Grace Solo Wi-Fi radio receiver (paired up with a Cisco Valet wireless router) as a Christmas present from them. It is absolutely wonderful. Set-up (by the kids of course) took minutes. The adapter is easy to use, music or news comes in clearly and selections are limitless. I couldn't be happier. If you have a parent who sounds like me, consider this as a gift. It is one of the best presents I have ever received.
sent it back, althought the sound is good, this needs speakers, and the so-called knobs are awful! They are hard to turn and break easily, I have to send mine back...it's such a pain! I only had it a month before the stupid knobs broke, I won't be getting this model again, now I have to pay extra to upgrade. The next model upgrade has normal knobs. This was a gift btw, so I was not able to test it out first.

Sangean WFR-1 Table-Top WiFi Internet Radio with FM-RDS (Dark Brown) Awful software and no support

Great Radio With A Serious Design Flaw, (What's this?) The Sangean WFR-1 WIFI Internet Radio was all we had hoped for. Great sound; allows us to listen to many stations via the Internet; looks good on the dresser in the bedroom. So why not a rating of five? Alas, this otherwise fine product has a serious design flaw for use as an alarm clock radio, one of the primary uses to which we intended to put it. It is tedious, to say the least, to turn the alarm on and off. First, the radio has to be on to turn the alarm on or off. Second, when the radio is on, there are multiple and complicated steps to turn the alarm on or off either at the radio or from the remote. The problem manifests itself in two ways. Come Friday evening when no alarm will be necessary the following morning, it is far too complicated to turn it off; the reverse is true on Sunday evening. Worse, and probably enough to give even a lower rating, is when one of us wakes up before the alarm goes off and the other does not have to get up early that morning, a not infrequent occurrence in our house. In the dark, it is nearly impossible to turn off the alarm before it goes off. Our previous high quality alarm clock radio, which unfortunately finally gave up of old age, had one button, easily found even in the dark, either on the radio or on the remote controller, to accomplish this simple task. We hope the Sangean engineers will hear this "alarm" and fix this simple problem for future buyers. But for this unhappy defect, we would be singing the praises of this radio.
    Great Internet Radio, (What's this?)
Sangean WiFi radio is a fine piece of equipment., (What's this?) Radio pulls in inet stations from all over the world in most any language. I really enjoy it and recommend it highly.
Exactly what we wanted, (What's this?) We were looking for a radio with good sound, that is easy to use, and would give us access to internet radio, our networked music library and local FM stations. We did not want it for a "clock radio" or alarm clock. This one has turned out to be exactly what we wanted with the added plus that it looks great. It sits in our kitchen and is hard wired since we took the opportunity during a kitchen remodeling to put ethernet cable in the wall. Set up was very easy. The ease of getting Internet radio favorites set up was really amazing - and the "local stations" folder was really neat. It also immediately connected to our music collection which sits on a Windows Home Server. Plus, it gets the local over the air FM stations much better than the CD/Radio that it replace. All this and it looks and sounds great.
Sangean WFR-1, (What's this?) Product knowledge of sales staff insufficient product was sent back to AMZ.
Unit requires integration with my desktop computer which needs to be active for it to operate. I thought otherwise. Minimal operating conditions should be discussed beforehand to avoid needless shipping expenses.
Sangean WFR-1 - BEST Internet Radio, (What's this?) I ordered this radio based on favorable reviews of others on Amazon and other internet sites. I and everyone who has listened to the WFR-1 have been amazed at the sound quality, especially on the hundreds of HD or High Definition radio stations.

It was a breeze to connect wirelessly to the internet. Just click your networks name then provide the key.

**** LOCAL STATIONS is a MENU Folder I find very neat. The radio knows your locality. Depending on where you live it could give you a dozen or so choices inside the LOCAL STATIONS folder without you having to set them up on the internet. So after being connected to the internet a short while, you have many of your favorite local stations available to select!

**** MY ADDED STATIONS Folder is the feature I think is most useful by far.
It would be impossible to know and keep current all the tens of thousands of radio stations around the world who stream their broadcasts live. So if you find a station streaming not on the list, you may add the station yourself.

I agree with other reviewers about the lack of ability to list song titles and artist on the display, but these are available on RDS FM stations.
Terrible, sub-par WiFi/Internet radio, (What's this?) I give this product two stars because of the good build quality and the good idea behind the product. However, this product's software is so bad and buggy, I am just astounded Sangean would ask someone to pay $250 for a product that would not pass muster with most regular users. They should be truly ashamed of themselves.

First the good: (a) Decent sound quality, (b) Nice, very well-made feel, (c) Nice features. Now the cons: (a) Horrible software. Do I really have to input the time, date and Internet settings every time the power goes out? This product is not sold for the German market, where I expect no power outages, but in the USA, where we DO have a lot of power outages. Every month or so where I live! (b) Internet radio is still a very immature market. First, the quality of the stuff out there on the Internet is bad, and the the product requires me to login to some other website to maintain my favorites, and that's just not OK. (c) Terribly bright front panel that cannot be dimmed. If Sangean wanted this product to be used as a bedside radio, they should also be aware that people don't like sleeping with their lights on! (d) Lastly, the UPnP support for in-home network music playback is substandard.
Beautiful Radio - Not a Clock Radio, (What's this?) I bought this radio with the intention of replacing my current clock radio which I was bored with. I read the reviews and what I expected was a very handsome radio that had the Internet stations as a very attractive feature. I discounted the reviewers who said it was hard to program and did not function well as a clock radio. I thought with my technical abilites that I could overcome some of the negatives I was reading in the reviews. I WAS WRONG. If you are looking for a good looking radio to sit in your study or den to listen to internet radio this is a fine unit. If you are looking for a clock radio, BEWARE! The first night it woke me up at 3:30 in the morning to the sounds of the BBC (not the local station, I thought I had programmed), and then with the small buttons and poor lighting I couldn't figure out how to turn it off. Another major flaw with the radio is, when the music is playing the time is not displayed, that alone is a deal breaker for me. Final thoughts: Beautiful feature rich radio that does not belong on your nightstand.
A Quality Product, (What's this?) Sangean has made good quality shortwave radios for many years, so it is no surprise the WFR-1 is a very good internet radio. It is easy to set up and the on-screen computer programming makes it easy to select or de-select stations. One uses his computer to program the radio.. Very simple. The sound quality is good for a table top radio. Don't expect a "boom box." You'll be sure to find the type of listening you want from scanners to talk radio to news to music---and it's all presented in a simple format for selection. If there is something I would like to see improved, it is the display on the radio itself. It could be brighter and larger.
Awful software and no support, I've had this radio for 4+ years. The software interface has always been horrible. During this time, I have also lost about 1/2 of the stations originally available. Zero software upgrades have been released to fix the issues. The software is supported by Frontier Silicon and they are no good. Unless you enjoy frustration, you are better looking elsewhere.

Grace Digital Wireless Internet Radio with remote (white) Great little radio....when it works!

Grace satellite radio innovatorll, (What's this?) Radio is excellent, I own 2, same brand different color, one in black and one in white, the white one is a refurbished and is in excellent condition, paid a lot less money for it than the black one(I got it brand new). The only difference is the price. Love them both.

Thank's Grace Digital for an excellent product.
Excellent radio for the money, Just bought the Grace Digital Radio GDI-IR 1000. Best thing I bought in a long time. It uses my general internet router and allows me to tune into 20,000+ stations all over the world, including over 1,000 stations in Germany and my preferred areas there. The sound quality is very good. This radio even gets me good reception for my New York classical station, which now has poor reception over the air. I would like more presets (the IR 1000 has 10), but it's easy to find new stations by just tuning in. All in all, an excellent buy. I would recommend it to anyone.
Great little radio....when it works!, (What's this?) My sister and I bought this radio for our parents because they moved out of the area and missed their old local stations. They were able to get it all set up, but immediately had problems with it disconnecting whenever they used their computer. My tech-savvy husband even took a look at it during one visit and couldn't determine the problem other than they may have had too weak a wifi signal or slow Internet. We took it home where we have high speed Internet and a great wifi signal and decided to give it a try here. Again, set up was fairly easy and we enjoyed listening to the radio for a short while until it started having buffering issues and connecting again. What a pain! We shouldn't have to reconfigure the setup each time we want to listen to this thing. VERY disappointed and very frustrated that I can no longer return it to Amazon. We gave it a good try and wanted to make it work...should have just returned it when we first had problems.
disappointed, (What's this?) I was very disappointed in this product. We used it for 4 months before the Blue Screen of Death appeared. We tried the factory reset instructions but the radio did not respond. Since we are now out of warranty with Amazon and have read that other customers have very little luck with Grace warranty and repairs, we will save the $24 shipping to repair this electronic brick.
    Try Logitech (wish we had.)
Nice, but needs improvement, (What's this?) I really like having an Internet radio; however, the Grace radio needs some tweaking. It's very time-consuming to find stations. It's not very user-friendly. After almost a year, I'm still trying to find time to figure out how to get my recorded programs (DAR) to play on the radio. The headphone jack should have been on the side or in the front, but it's inconveniently in the back. And, lastly, the radio is too big and clunky.
Stay away from these products!, (What's this?) What? Are you kidding? I read the first few reviews and I simply cannot believe them. I bought two of the Grace Digital IR2000 radios and one of the IRdt200. All three radios behave in exactly the same way which is to say in two words "they don't". Stay away from these radios! Why? Because when you finish the setup and you are all locked in to your favorite station you may think you are done...you aren't.
Fantastic audio device, (What's this?) If you're looking for a great looking, well built internet radio receiver, to listen to radio stations from around the world with clear, crisp and pleasant sound, this is the device for you!
    Highly recommended.
disappointed, I have owned this radio for less than a year. In that time it has almost daily dropped the Internet. Now, just ten months after purchasing the radio, the speaker has failed.
Grace GDI-IR1000 problems, (What's this?) I love everything about the GDI-IR1000 but have had too many technical problems with it. I have made 3 warranty returns, costing me a total of about $37 for shipping. Each of the 3 GDI-IR1000s Grace sent me has had issues re-establishing connectivity with the router after losing connectivity. This frequently requires that it be disconnected from and reconnected to AC power as the only way to re-establish connectivity.
Be careful before you buy this radio, I bought this radio with high hopes of being able to listen to my favorite morning radio station, KLOS, 95.5, from Los Angeles. I live in south Orange County behind a hill that blocks LA stations. I can go to my computer and stream the show from KLOS anytime. In the two years I've had this *&#@* radio, I've been able to use it for less than 3 months to listen to KLOS.

I contact Grace Tech support, and they do nothing. I try to go to their website, but it's crashed (what a surprise!)(16 Sept 2011).

When I have gotten through, they tell me to contact "reciva.com" and ask them to fix the problem. That's great if you like talking to a cement wall (they refuse to respond).

The radio does a good job of getting a lot of stuff I don't want to hear. Oh yeah, it has a nice low hissing sound to it when it is off, so you can't use it in your bedroom.

Summary: It doesn't work for me, I'll never buy anything else from Grace Digital. I'd rate it negative stars if I could.

Cobra CIR1000A Wireless Internet and FM Radio with MP3 Input, Clock, and Alarm for Use with Broadband Internet Connection

Nice Radio with Couple of Cons, (What's this?) Overall I like this radio. I bought one about 6 months ago on Amazon and payed around $93. I liked it so much that I bought my dad one too.

    Pro's
-Super easy setup (I never even looked at the book)
-Excellent/logical menu navigation (this is it's best feature)
-Tons of stations in the menus.
-Decent sound (not as good as tivoli or sangean hi-fi radios)
-Can set up internet to keep clock on time (this is really cool).
-Very good FM reception (don't know about AM)
    -Good construction/look/feel

    Con's
-Weak wifi reception (This is it's biggest fault)
-Screen difficult to read an any angle other than straight on because the display is set back so far behind the front panel mask. This really affects the practical use as a clock radio. (This is the second biggest fault.)
-Tiny buttons (doesn't really bother me but they are surprisingly tiny.

In general I'm glad I have it but I would like one with a better wi-fi range. My wifi is downstairs and my bedroom is about as far from the wifi router as is possible in this house (Probably 60 ft in a straight line but through walls and floor). I use this particular radio in a room which is closer to the router.
Bad problem, no support, (What's this?) First of all, the setup was not great. The menu structure is convoluted. However, after setup, the radio worked and was apparently OK. However, one time it was turned on and the screen displayed "Network Error." Nothing could make it work after this happened. I had to do a system reset and enter all the information again. However, this was not an isolated event; network errors happened frequently. The radio was about 10 feet from a wifi access point and the signal strength is excellent. The Network is extremely stable; no other wifi devices experienced any problems. Thus it had to be the radio. I checked the Cobra website.
LOVE IT, I absolutely love this radio, set up was easy, sounds great for the price, get all my favourite uk stations. Highly recommended.
Cobra CIR1000A, I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this radio. It has wonderful sound qualities and really fills up the room. Cobra partners with Frontier Silicon Wireless Portal so that you can create one or many station profiles for different users. You create your profile using an online interface on your computer and the profile is imported on the radio's control panel. It takes a little time to configure for the radio to make use of your wireless network. For example, you have to learn how to use the radio interface to put in your WEP code. Once you're on your wireless network, the radio performs very well. I have no idea what internal wireless adapter Cobra uses but it is certainly sufficient to pull in quality sound anywhere in the house. The radio will also play shared media if you have a network configured.
Stumblefoot, (What's this?) really easy to use, display is a bit small. You can find everything on this! It's awesome. Just be sure you have a wireless router. I do and knew what I was getting.
A great new internet radio from a rather unlikely brand, (What's this?) Since the invention of internet radio, there have been products coming from some noteworthy brands (Logitech and Grace Digital being the frontrunners of all things internet radio). However, the newest internet radio comes from out of left field- from Cobra, of all people.
Some reservations..., (What's this?) This unit, Cobra CIR1000A, set up quickly to my wireless and the sound is remarkably excellent for its size. These are this unit's biggest pluses besides its modest cost. The reservations are these: First, the buttons are tiny, faintly labeled and so are awkward to use and, since there is NO Remote to bypass those pesky buttons, can be frustrating. Second, "Favorites" can be set only by going to the web site called 'frontier' so there is a limited availability compared to other internet radio sites. Also, the list can only be modified by using this site also. Third, the unit has frozen up a couple of times, (lost in 'connecting' mode), requiring me to unplug and replug to 'reboot', so to speak.
I am seriously considering returning the unit but am unsure of alternatives.
Buy one... now., What a great piece of kit.

The instructions were clear and easy to understand, and set up procedure was simple.... even for a techno-baffoon like myself.
Just follow the manual, go on line, enter the code and choose from gazillions of radio stations. They are instantly delivered to the radio (by magic, I think).

And then, just select one and marvel at the outstanding sound quality. I am an ex-pat living in New York, and in the past I used my laptop to listen to BBC Radio 5 live (football & news), Radio 4 (cricket & news)and BBC 6 music (um, music?). But even with a decent laptop, the sound quality was not good.

But with this, you get sound comparable to a Bose.... at a fraction of the price, and with an almost unlimited number of stations.

One, miniscule, pretty insignificant gripe..... perhaps Cobra should have thought about having a small slot in the back for batteries... it needs to be connected to the mains at all times. Although, when you turn it on, it connects and plays within 30 seconds, so it's no big deal.
Excellent price for a perfectly good radio, (What's this?) I already owned a wireless internet radio that cost almost twice the price so I was hesitant to buy one that was so much cheaper. Turns out my fears were unfounded. Both radios are comparable in sound, ease of use and other features. There's nothing wrong with this unit whatsoever.

REVO AXIS Compact, ?connected? digital radio with touchscreen and dock for iPod

Total trash, was better off with the Logitech Squeeze Radio, (What's this?) I did so much research before purchasing and I thought this seriously was supposed to be top quality. The sound is excellent but it spends most of its time buffering internet radio streams. The Logitech Squeeze Radio has been so superior to this that I wish I had not been fooled by the positive reviews for the Revo. I will be putting mine up on Ebay and will not be purchasing a Revo product again.
Love it! And will purchase another for a gift., I am thrilled with my axis radio. I have programmed in my favorite internet stations and there are lots more stations to find and listen to. I like that it has a touch screen and that I stay connected and never have a problem with streaming. It's a blast to listen to radio stations from all over the world. I am planning to purchase another one for a gift.
Disapointing, I purchased this radio after a very favorable rating by "What Hi-Fi" magazine. I don't know what they were thinking, I was very disappointed and can't see how this would win anything. First, the output volume is VERY low. If this radio was in a room with even a small amount of ambient noise it would be easily drowned out. Second, the menus are difficult, with icons that are far from intuitive. For internet stations the buffering time can be excessive. It has been trying to buffer a station for the last ten minutes to no avail. Also, no Pandora or access to Sirius online. It did function well with my iphone 4, but who cares? I could have gotten a much cheaper and better sounding ipod dock for the money.

If you are in the market I would skip this product.
