Grace Digital GDI-IRP600 Wi-Fi Internet Radio with FM Tuner

quick comparison with Grace IR1000, (What's this?) In comparison to the Grace IR1000 (the first generation Grace internet radio I believe):
Range is poor...fine I suppose if you are using in the same room as your wifi access point
Sound quality went downhill considerably...
Very Excellent Radio, (What's this?) This is the best radio I've ever used. Having written that, it can be difficult to setup.
No ACC+ is a big problem, Grace Internet audio refuses offer ACC+ compatibility. This is a big problem. Most major radio station streaming is going to ACC+. Recommend you stay away from Grace Audio and any other internet radio that does not support ACC+.
Incorrect Product Specs, (What's this?) This radio DOES NOT receive AAC+ encoding. If you check the Grace site - it indicates the radio does reciev AAC+ and it will list stations transmitting in AAC as being able to be received on ALL grace radios. This is FALSE. This radio cannot receive AAC+.
DisGrace GDI-IRP600, (What's this?) If you've been waiting a long time for a portable WiFi Internet radio, wait a while longer and don't be tempted by this one. This is a pitiful product from an irresponsible company. It doesn't connect to my Apple AirPort Extreme network, which may have something to do with Apple's latest firmware v.7.4.1, although my Roku Internet radio and other equipment continue to work just fine with my AirPort network. The DisGrace initially functioned with the AirPort network but was prone to constant re-buffering, especially when receiving streams with high bit rates. For portable Internet radio, I've gone back to cellular, using a Verizon Palm Treo 700p with Altec Lansing inMotion portable speakers. I have another router, a Kyocera KR2 EVDO WiFi unit, and the DisGrace still works with that, though with the same dropouts and rebuffering. Expect to have to put the radio directly next to the router since that's about the limit of its range. I recently discussed the problems with the manufacturer, which had ignored my initial E-mail. They authorized a repair or exchange. I sent the radio in and got the same radio back, with no improvement in performance and no explanation as to the nature of the service they provided. The fact that they added settings for a different WiFi network and left their Costco batteries inside suggests that they did try to get it working but they didn't feel the need to comment on their experience. Just send the piece of trash back to the customer and move on. That's the spirit! I'm very happy with Amazon but completely disgusted with this product. If your Internet radio doesn't have to be portable, go with a Roku SoundBridge. That's a class act.
NOT ALL RADIOS ARE CREATED EQUAL!, (What's this?) The best thing about this radio,is the Grace Customer service and Support!I have a Cisco Linksys wireless router, which is unsecured. When I received the 600 I could find my network, but could not connect to it.The radio would power down but not complete the connection.I have another Grace Radio in the house,a 1000 model,it works fine and connected the first time I powered it up!After contacting the Grace ,they sent me a replacement unit, even before I sent the original unit back. The replacment unit did the same thing,so Grace Support suspects the platform which is different for the 1000 and 600,another thing to remember is that the 1000 uses RECIVA as the 600 uses VTUNER.I am going to sent the 600 back for refund and pick up the ALLEGRO which uses RECIVA and has same platform as my working 1000 unit, and as the 600 ,has battery power portability and a FM TUNER.Thank you Grace Support and Customer Service.
Good Inet Radio - but no Pandora Support, (What's this?) This Internet radio is pretty well constructed. Configuring and operating it is pretty straight forward (requires wireless access point). Sound quality is acceptable - no Bose. This radio uses Aupeo service but no Pandora, so that's a negative.

In general, it's a pretty decent internet radio (good build quality, acceptable audio, easy configuration).
Decent Sound but buggy software, You know they can put a man on the moon and I've been through 5 internet radios and they are finicky! Unless the moon is aligned just right, they don't work and make sure you set aside 30 minutes ahead of time to allow them to boot, connect to the wifi and then pick a station that actually works in order to listen. As for this one, the software is buggy, you have to try different ways in the menus and finally it will connect to your wifi. Now I don't know if I got a bad unit or if it's by design, but I cannot use this thing to listen to internet radio on batteries. It works fine on the power supply but doesn't play on batteries. Maybe another 10 years and someone will actually be able to make one that boots fast and plays reliable. We need someone that can do for these what Apple did for the phone.
Grace Internet Radio, (What's this?) We had some problems at first, but email correspondence cleared it up mostly. Their response was prompt, tactful, and helpful.
We still have occasional interruptions in our service, but it is now much better.
Basic and Portable, Works on Batteries!, (What's this?) I bought a factory refurbished model and I am very satisfied. I wanted an Internet Radio that would run on batteries so I could carry it around the house and into the yard. This is perfect! I don't have any problems with the wireless function. It was easy to set up and it's a lot of fun to explore the wide range of stations. I've been very interested in Internet Radios for a while but I was put off by the price.

Bluetooth Internet Radio Car Kit by Livio - LVC02A.

wow, pretty awesome, Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) I have to admit I was really skeptical about this thing at first. My wife and I bought one of those Belkin FM transmitters a few years back for road trips and it was a POS. That was such a bad experience that the only reason I even tried this one was because I got it for free through a trial program. That being said. I tried it yesterday morning and was able to set it up out of the box and have it playing music through my car stereo in under five minutes without even opening the manual. I'm a pretty tech savy user, but that's still pretty awesome.
Elegant and complex, Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) Very nice looking device. Requires a Free Livio Radio App installed on a Smartphone. Paired easily to bluetooth with a 3G iPhone and streamed radio un-interupted while traveling 300 miles. Worked very well. A second iPhone with newer OS could not connect via Bluetooth but an included 10" 3.5 mini-plug wire allowed tunes on the phone to play through the Radio. Many buttons and controls did not behave as instuctions suggest. Volume control on device did not function as replacement for Radio Volume know. Have not tested phone calling features yet. Simultaneous Driving and calling seems inappropriate.
Great Bluetooth Internet Car Radio But with Some Qualms, Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) I have used a handful of different bluetooth apps for the iPhone (as most are targeted for). The BLUETOOTH INTERNET RADIO CAR KIT BY LIVIO is one of the cooler items for your car. For those that remember the old Monster kit that plugs into your car lighter (which, seems to be a port these days as I dont think they actually make lighters anymore) and you intercept the radio to play your iTunes, well those days are gone with this device.

I am pretty much reviewing this with using it for the basic purpose of either talking on the phone, or listening to the radio, With the Livio Internet Car Radio, you are using bluetooth technology which is a much sharper and higher quality sound and you are streaming live through thousands of stations of your choosing. Whether you want classic rock, contemporary, rap, talk radio, news, or country or whatever, there is a station for it.

Some of the reviewers have complained of the $4.99 price tag attached to everything. This is not entirely true. I have not paid for anything and I am able to get music through, and it sounds great.

Set up of the device is more or less simple. Plug into the cigarette lighter, attach the USB to the iPhone, then the auxiliary to the device. At least, thats how I set it up. Seems to work.

There are still some aspects I have not really utilized or examined close enough to comment here. I tried using it as a phone, but for some reason I was not able to hear the other person on the line. Now I dont know if I need to pay for the service that I have read about, but it was not as easy as I would have thought. It also advertises Pandora and other services.
Awesome, high-quality product!, Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) I haven't even used all of the features of this thing, and I love it. The device plugs into my car's 12v power socket and manages to flex into the perfect position. Both of my cars have slightly different socket placement, but the flexibility of this product allows for me to position it exactly where I like. Here are some of the features which I have found to be noteworthy:

There is a very convenient (and inconvenient) power button located at the tip of the power supply. I say convenient because, in the case that occasionally the bluetooth on your phone doesn't fully connect you can easily turn it off to get the audio back to your phone. Alternatively, it is inconvenient because you can accidentally bump it and then have to fumble around to find your phone because you just cut off your bluetooth connection to your phone call.

You can program this to transmit over ANY FM radio station that your car can handle.

There are more great features which I have been unable to test, such as the iPhone app that it offers on its website. I don't have a smartphone nore a data connection. However, i can stream music from my phone's SD card and it sounds great.

On an additional note: my wife tells me that the sound quality on the mic is pretty good on the other end of the phone conversation.
Convenient, but performance will vary car-to-car, Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) This car kit is very convenient for playing music from my iPhone over the car radio using a bluetooth connection. Pairing with my iPhone works well. The first time I paired, I needed to download an app. The app allows you to stream internet radio stations. I personally rarely use the app. I find other iPhone apps do a better job and have a smoother interface. If you have iTunes running in the background, once you pair the device and hit play it will start playing iTunes. The same with other music apps. If no music app is running, it will auto-start the custom Livio app.

I have never cared much for FM transmitters, as I hate the background static and loss of fidelity over hard-wired connections. Unfortunately, this is still a necessary evil for me because my cars do not have aux-in connections nor functional cassette decks.
Flawless!, Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) Works great, Excellent quality too! Connecting via Bluetooth was seamless and never hiccuped.
Confusing, Confusing, Confusing, Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) We actually did get this device to work but the process was rather painful. The box and the book only mention iPhone and iPod so for awhile I thought this was impossible to use with a Smart Phone. Thankfully some helpful Amazon reviewers cleared that up for us and our Sprint Samsung Smart Phone does work with this product. Our first trials had a lot of static but we finally fine tuned it enough to get some decent sound. It took awhile to figure out how to add stations and we still think 1.FM which was the first we found (or was already installed?) is our favorite. We found 100hitz - Top 40 station but so far at least all we have been able to do with it is to connect, buffer and stream stop so as of yet no music played. What does this do that our Belkin Bluetooth doesn't do? To discover this I played the Livio app on the Smart Phone, turned on the Belkin Bluetooth and the Livio music came through with much better sound than it did with this Livio radio device.
Very nice, cool gadget for the car., Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) The hardware:
Comes with the lighter adapter. And auxiliary cable to go from your smart phone to the adaptor incase you don't want to use blue tooth. A lot of nice features about this from having a usb plug on the adaptor charger (so that you can charge your phone while using the power adapter)to the easy to use buttons. Aside from listening to internet radio on your car speakers you can also make and receive calls if you do make or receive a call your radio stream will get disconnected, you will have to reconnect once the call is over, the reason for the disconnection I believe is that the phone switches bandwidth types at that point a call is made or received, a limitation of the phone not the Livio device. There is a small but detailed booklet that comes with it explaining each of the features and walks you through the install. The device is solidly built. Th interface keypad is attached to the power adapter through a flexible goose neck that is sturdy. The unit it's self is very solidly built.

    The software:
The software is easy enough to download I used the Market place software on my sprint phone to find the Livio software. I like the ease of use of the user interface. The easy search for radio stations. I was also able to use Pandora with this system. I was able to use my ipod nano with the supplied cable. There are hundreds of free stations available on the free version of Livio internet car radio but my suggestion would be to upgrade to the Livio pro version because it opens up so much more in the way of listener experience.

    Slight draw backs:
You will need to set your radio station to an unused station id so my suggestion is that you take some time and find one with as little static as possible, I was able to find some that once I tuned the Livio adapter in that didn't have any static. On the more staticy stations the static will come through to a certain extent. I did have the best luck using vacant station id's in the upper half of the frequency.
Why pay a premimum for this product?, The Livio kit is your typical Blue Tooth dongle with a FM transmitter. These type of products have been around for years. The product works OK but the reason I give it 1 star is they are charging $100 when the competitors charge $49.00. Take a look at the pictures of the GoGroove

USB Internet Radio and TV Player

Not a tv tuner, (What's this?) This is NOT a TV tuner. Instead it's a flash drive loaded with software that finds programs on the internet. There are tons of free programs online that offer this. Not worth the money.
JUNK, (What's this?) This product is a piece of JUNK and Amazon should be ashamed to be selling it. I got it today and plugged it in as instructed and it did NOTHING.
Garbage, As the other reviewers have stated, I found it useless.
CNN did not work. BBC was a canned report from over a year ago (report on the volcano that stopped air traffic last year.
it is a toy, (What's this?) if you think it is a toy or gift, it is perfect. for vidoe resolution and quality, it is so so, somes are bad. radio part is very good.
i still like it, because it is fun and cheap.
Warning! Warning! Warning!, (What's this?) This is a piece of junk! You DO NOT need this device to access ONLINE radio, TV, etc...Just like the others have said: It's only a FLASHDRIVE with software to access radio, TV, etc. online--THOUSANDS of websites offer the same thing for FREE! Save your money, do a Google search, or buy a tuner like I'm having to do.........
Doesn't work, I plugged this thing in and a web page came up with a 503 error saying that they were working to get it fixed. The next day something that looked in shape like a login screen, only in Chinese came up. I clicked the English button and got just a blank page.

I figured before I bought it that this was just some software on a flash drive, but I didn't figure that it was reliant on a flaky web site to operate. I wasn't expecting much, but I at least thought it would work.
Sorry Don't Speak Chinese, (What's this?) OK, so I ordered this "tuner" and was so excited for it to get here and it finally came after like two or three weeks. I was so happy to get it, I plugged it into my computer to check it out and everything was in Chinese.
NOT GOOD FOR ME., (What's this?) IT DIDN'T WORK.I TRY SO MANY TIMES WITH DIFFERENT COMPUTERS AND IS BOTH TWO.
THE PRICE IS CHEAPER BUT THE ITEM ISN'T WORKING.I DON'T WANNA WASTE MY TIME ON RETURNS.
WASTE OF MONEY, (What's this?) Add boasts thousands of stations, however the few I do get are in Chinese or some other foreign language the labeling for the stations is in Chinese too. No English stations found. Don't believe the hype.
get pc to tv instead, (What's this?)

Grace Digital GDI-IRD4000 Portable Wireless Internet Radio Featuring Pandora, NPR and SIRIUS

Disappointing, (What's this?) Not easy to set up. "Stations" have to be on the manufacturer's list. If you have a favorite not on it, you have to ask them to include it; they will decide whether to make it available to you. I got this to listen to my private stream; Oh well. I will NEVER buy this mfr's products again.
Great Radio, poor wifi range, (What's this?) I ordered one of these refurbished from Grace, and although it functions perfectly and has wonderful sound with a well-designed remote control, it only works about 15-20 feet from my wifi modem. I have another Grace table radio model IR2000, and it works 40-50 feet away.

I returned it to Grace for warranty service, they replace the wifi stick and another board, but exact same weak wifi reception.
Fantastic for Internet radio!, (What's this?) I got this as a gift for my dad and nearly didn't give it to him! I loaded up Sirius and Pandora so he could plug it in and go - it is awesome! Everything works great! You can have the grace website sync your pandora to the device, but you have to put your sirius info into it directly - and the scroll wheel can be a bit tedious, but once its in, its set.
Everything I could have asked for, (What's this?) Had tried 3 other internet radios--one stopped working after a couple of weeks--one couldn't access the stations I wanted--and one other drained batteries so fast it was useless. This has performed incredibly well--it is even refurbished and looks and works like a new one--the built in rechargeable battery is outstanding. Would recommend to anyone.
Great little device with some minor inconveniences, (What's this?) i bought two of these refurbished from Grace thru amazon for $69 each. they are really nice units. while not as complete as the squeezebox (i had one and returned it), i think it sounds better, has a nice remote, and can run on rechargeable "AA" batteries. i can't seem to figure out how to get itunes to play on it (Grace told me it will-just not sure how to yet), but a lot of my purchased music is from amazon, so it will play on windows media player anyway. the menus are a bit quirky and it does take quite a few button pushes, but i find it isn't much worse than the squeezebox. it does have seperate sound adjustments-something i didn't find on the squeezebox.
A Good Choice for Clock Radio, (What's this?) This is a good item, fairly priced. The build quality is very nice, it set up and worked right out of the box, the audio quality is quite good for a small box, the capabilities are extensive, the online support is strong and the usability is good--not perfect but pretty good. It seems able to tune in almost any internet radio source, it's optimized for things I subscribe to like Sirius and Pandora, and it has a comprehensive set of alarm settings. The negatives--for some unknown reason it buffers but fails to connect every time to some stations, despite a very strong WIFI signal, which makes using music a chancy thing for alarms, the small remote is necessary for almost all setup menus, and the LCD display is so large and bright that it is like a nightlight, illuminating the bedroom, even at the lowest setting. This last fault appears to be endemic among all such radio displays, and some users report getting good results with dimming it via window film, so I would not rule out buying this item for that reason alone.
Technically not as good as computer for net listening, This 'net radio is my first experience with listening to 'net audio on a self contained radio. I've been using for years a series of laptops to tune to 'net stations.

At first, I was very happy with the Grace Allegro and the online method of adding stations. But, as I added more stations, I noticed that the Allegro would not be able to connect to some of them, such as one of the BBC stations. Moving over to my laptop, I was easily able to bring these stations up to play within seconds. Meanwhile, the Grace was in 'connecting' or 'buffering' for many minutes on these same stations. For example, just as I write this, the Allegro took 6 minutes to connect to a 'net station that my laptop connected to in 30 seconds. Since Graces uses the Reciva internet radio service, maybe Reciva is using less than best URLS for the stations, but still, 6 minutes compared to 30 seconds is significant, esp for major stations such as the BBC.

I don't have any experience other than with this Grace Allegro model, but the above is what I've experienced in three days of use. I have been happy, once connected, that the Grace Allegro holds the stream and will retry if the stream drops off, which happens with 'net listening.
Just What I Wanted, (What's this?) Got this radio a few days ago, so far it has been exactly what I wanted. We live away from most radio stations of my taste and no NPR! I wanted something to listen to the radio like I used to, like on the back porch, not on the computer. The radio seems pretty robust and nicely finished. It sounds very good for a small table radio, volume is more than adequate for what I want. Menus are easy to figure out. Good remote control. If you are able to set up any other modern device this will be easy for you to set up but if your VCR is still flashing "12:00" you might need some help. I have not checked out Pandora, etc. yet. Having a lot of fun searching out stations by location and genre, now I have far more stations than when I lived in a big city. I have already found a lot of interesting stations from all over. I would highly recommmend this radio.
A compact and powerful radio!, (What's this?) The Grace Allegro radio is a full feature packed internet radio.
It simply can not connect to my wifi, (What's this?) I should be an experienced wifi radio user and have used Mutant (-5) and Logitech for some time. With this GDI-IDR4000, I was hoping to have batterary-powered function along with alarm/timer and better sound quality.

Wolverine Data WIR-900 Internet Table Radio - White

Great WiFi Internet Radio, I recently purchased this radio because of my growing interest in WiFi internet radio and I could not be happier. Set-up was very easy as per the printed manual. Once your WiFi network is detected (It takes about 20 seconds) then follow the menu and use the remote/and or the front panel interface to enter your WEP Encryption and away you go. You can also set up with a wired LAN if you have to. There are 4 front panel presets and you can add 10 favorites to a graphical list also. The radio comes with the option to use vTuner website which you can use to create a "favorites" list for 20 more of your favorites. You can search for thousands of station and lsiten to a clip of the service. What is nice about vTuner is that it sends the list your create right to the radio! Another very nice feature is that you can stream songs stored from your computer right to the radio (Via Windows Media Player).

The radio itself is very well made with two 3 watt speakers that offer very good sound quality for their size. The radio is not that heavy and the color scheme is pleasing to the eye; The internal buffer is sizable and it allows flawless radio listening. The unit is very sensitive and as long as you have a good fast router you should have very little trouble with resets and hang ups which will happen from time to time on ANY radio. Remember that sound quality will be of MP3 so it will not compare to Cd quality but you can tune over 16,000 stations world wide; try that with your home tuner. Speaking of home tuners you can use the front panel 3.5mm stereo plug to connect to your HiFi home system. All in all for the price it has been a very good investment. My only gripes with this product would be that it could use a longer power cord and the remote receiving angle could be improved.

Grace Digital GDI-IRD4400m Wireless Internet Radio Featuring Pandora, NPR On-Demand and SIRIUS

    thoughts on radio, (What's this?)
This is the right internet radio for me, (What's this?) I've had this radio for 3 months now, replacing my Sanyo R227 (which I also reviewed). In a nutshell, this radio has all the features of the Sanyo, but better, and for the same cost or less. I can see the artist name and song title. I was able to immediately find my stations I had programmed from the Sanyo, and that was plus.
Good and bad, (What's this?) This is a small radio with small speakers so don't expect room-filling stero sound. It does what it can and for casual use it is very good. The manual has many mistakes which makes set-up an adventure, but once set-up, it works well. Since making a mistake during set-up is likely, customer service is vital ... and it is terrible !!!! Impossible to talk to a human; only email support. Very slow and when I did get an email from a human, the instructions were incomplete and in several cases just wrong. Something he said would take one step ended up taking 6 - which I had to discover myself. Now that it is up and running, I am happy with the purchase. If I had it to do over I would go with the C. Crane radio.
Not bad, (What's this?) I have been listening to Internet Radio on my PC for some time. I decided it would be neat to be able to listen in the garage, etc. I saw an advertisement for the Grace radio and did some research. Most was positive so I ordered it. I was a little surprised (and disappointed) that it doesn't have a line output so I could hook it to my stereo (it just drives speakers directly). Other than than, it works fine and is about what I expected. For the price, this is a good deal.
Great Radio (90% of the time), (What's this?) We bought one of these radio's to play through wifi in our small bakery so that we could set it in something without running wires all over the place.
Simple and easy to use!, (What's this?) I have had this wifi radio for about a year now. I decided to buy this due to the poor reception of FM stations in my area. It has been a joy. Pandora, NPR, BBC, etc with a touch of the button. Also, the documentation with the product is excellent. I highly recommend this radio.
Very useful item, I've had this item since March 2010 and I love it. I also am a Pandora One subscriber. If you like music and don't like the hassle of constantly looking for CD's, this is the unit for you.
I use this more than my expensive stereo system now, cuz it is so much more convenient. You really need your own wifi to make this work in a practical way. Make sure you get the updates.
Works as promised!, (What's this?) This unit replaced a Sanyo which did not work correctly, despite a firmware update. This also uses the Reciva software, but it really works on this one. Setup was easy and pretty intuitive: didn't need the book. I am able to access my shared music on the computer, and the unit shows up on my computer as an available media device. Another feature which did not work on the Sanyo but which is working great on this is 365Live music. The remote is very nice.

One or two minuses: the backlight display is really bright, even set down to 1. The lowest volume setting could be lower.
Don't buy this product, (What's this?) Before I bought this, I had a Tangent Quattro wi-fi radio that also had a few, very rare, stability issues, but it worked very well for three years with minimal problems, until it just died.

I believe that stability is an issue in most wi-fi radios, and especially those that use the Reciva system. According to the blogs at the Reciva website, many Reciva radios have a dongle that does not work with the Wireless N protocol, and can suffer instability even if your next door neighbor uses Wireless N for her wi-fi network.

I bought this item after reading the reviews, knowing that it might have some problems. The first one I bought simply would not start up. It would seem to start, log on to my network, and sometimes even connect to a station for a minute or two. Then it would restart, and restart, and restart.

I returned the first one for exchange. The second one worked better. Still many restarts, but it actually worked for two days without restarting. Then it would restart, restart, restart. After a few weeks, I sent it back for a refund.

Despite my terrible experience with this radio, and the lack of any customer support from Grace, I want to commend Amazon.com for its excellent and responsive handling of my problems. I've never returned an item from Amazon.com due to defects until I bought this radio, and I was impressed with the customer service provided by Amazon.com in this case.
My new favorite consumer electronic toy., (What's this?) I read alot about internet radios before I picked this one by Grace. I love pandora and NPR and this radio is perfect for both of those. I did not like using my laptop or PC hooked up to the stereo system for alot of reasons. At the time none of my other dvrs or blu rays or tvs could get internet radio (now my tivo works with pandora)

I could get NPR on the radio in the car but not in the house - until now.

    It was easy to setup.

    Sangean RCR-8WF Internet Clock Radio

Frustrated, re Sangean RCR-8WF. I get a strong signal from my Linksys WIFI at a distance of 50 feet. The Sangean radio couldn't connect and function till it was within 2 feet of the router, and still indicated a weak signal. I tried to use the radio's FM mode, but the radio insisted on searching for a network connection, and wouldn't let me do a band shift to FM. It was loaded with their latest software update.
Sangean's website and manual provide no help.
I wasted several hours trying workarounds, including another network.
Great potential, but needs a firmware update, I have had this radio for about 3 weeks now, have used it extensively, and it has some great potential, but unfortunately it is let down by its still immature software. There are freezes and restarts and there are some usability features where things should be better thought out (eg: the Sleep function that the other review points out).

I believe that you should consider the following:
    - if your priority is to be woken to Internet radio: hold off a little until new firmware is available and fixes some of the issues
    - if your priority is an alarm clock with the HWS system (Humane Waking System): you should purchase another one of Sangean's alarm clocks - eg: the higher rated RCR-3

The other advanced alarm clock to consider is the American Innovative Neverlate alarm clocks which are even more customizable.
    Not Sangean's best work, (
WiFi clock radio, (What's this?) The best WiFi radio I've seen for clear reception of radio stations from around the country not otherwise available because of distance. WABC, etc. is available 24 hours a day from hundreds of miles away - very easy to operate.
Sangean RCR-8WF, I purchased the RCR-8WF as a replacement for an old Panasonic clock radio mainly for the Internet radio capability and for use at night. It is not a bad radio but seems more like a work-in-progress than a well thought out product.

    My issues with it are:
    1) The sleep timer takes three button presses to work. Turn the radio on, press the sleep timer button, then press select. Try doing this in the dark when you are half asleep! It should take one - press the sleep button. This is the way their other radios work.
    2) The display brightens to full when any button is pressed. The manual says that you can dim it in this mode but is does not keep the setting. You can dim it but then comes back full brightness the next time you hit a button.
    3) The internet radio takes about 15-30 seconds to change stations or to come on the first time. I understand the technology involved, and could deal with this if it were not for the other issues.

I contacted Sangean a week go about these issues and still have not heard back. I will be returning it and waiting for a more mature product.
Exactly what I was looking for, (What's this?) Exactly what I was looking for.
Not so easy to do the initial setup with Reciva web site since instructions provided with the radio do not match exactly the current web content.
But after some tries & errors all went well and I can now enjoy 100% ads free classical music from my bed, including baroque, a pleasure.
Update, (What's this?) First let me say that it is a joy to get my morning AM news station CLEAR without all the buzz from living in the shadow of the Bourne Bridge (Cape Cod) and the crackle-pops when bad weather is moving in. It's also fun to Dx through the 2200 or so internet stations.

That said, there are more cons than pluses here. The radio's controls are as poorly thought out as all the other internet radios. Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, why can't a single one of these "engineers" take one of the easiest to use standard clock radios as a template (Magnavox CD-stereo clock radio or Proton--hell even Sony!) and build the controls around that control layout?

The manual for this product stinks, so don't go there for help. Customer support is non-existent--I e-mailed them asking how to keep the panel light on permanently during the night(if the radio isn't running,I can only find out the time by fumbling in the dark and pushing the left top button to briefly light the display)--I NEVER got an answer, and that was 6 weeks ago!

Also, I stated the sound is ClEAR, I didn't say anything about fidelity-- for $150 I would expect it to sound better than a $17 Sony clock radio, but it doesn't.

So, bottom line, I tried all the HD radios, and several of the $100-200 internet radios and this one was the best I could find, but the only reason I am keeping it is that it gave me a clear signal, most of the stuff on it works, and my wife got sick of my testing and returning radios! It fits nicely on the nightstand, looks "normal" unlike some of the monsters available, and does the job we wanted, oh, and I got it on sale for $50 off.
Sangean RCR-8WF, (What's this?) This radio is ok and does what it claims to do. The reception is pretty good considering my router is on the second floor and I use the radio in my home gym in a shed in my backyard. I don't use the alarm clock on it so I can't comment on that.
The pros- Many radio stations from all over the world. Can work with a router that is far away. FM stations.
The cons- No remote control. No USB. Like anything wireless it disconnects and has to buffer, but not too bad. Limited station presets, only 5.
The Best Clock Radio I haver ever purchased or seen!!!, (What's this?) This review is for the Sangean RCR-8WF Internet Clock Radio.
    [...]
A little about me/my history to qualify my statements:
OK, for the last few years I have bought at least 5, probably more, clock radio alarm clocks. I have spent anywhere from from [...] on each of them. I have bought RCA, Timex, Sony, Emerson, and another that escapes me at the moment.
It's OK, but...., I purchased the RCR-8WF based on my experiences with the RCR-22 Clock Radio and the WFR-20 Wifi Radio, both of which I have been extremely happy with. I wanted an internet radio for my alarm clock so that I could wake up to stations that I prefer from outside the US (most notably, BBC Radio 2).

Overwall, the RCR-8WF is ok...not great, but ok. I was expecting operation that was a little more user friendly and features that were a bit more robust. For instance, the RCR-22 has a manual/analog volume control on the side of the unit, while the 8WF uses two software defined buttons on the top. The unforunate part of this design is that the volume buttons take up space that could be used for two additional station presets, as on the RCR-22.

My biggest complaint about the RCR-8WF, however, is that the current firmware version requires the radio to do a complete network initialization and search each time it is turned on. (The WFR-20 does the same thing).

  • Sleep/snooze timers
  • Built-in FM tuner
  • 10 preset stations
  • Wake up to Internet radio
  • Two alarm settings each day

  • Sleep/snooze timers.Built-in FM tuner.10 preset stations.Wake up to Internet radio. Two alarm settings each day. People just love the idea of waking up to their favorite internet radio stations. The Sangean RCR-8WF lets you set an alarm to wake up to Internet radio, and also has an FM/RDS tuner built in allowing you to be able to access any local FM stations with or without RDS provision. In addition it incorporates all of the advanced features found in other Sangean clock radios. Set your favorite 10 stations using the preset buttons or the "favorites" category on your radio. Any needed firmware upgrades are available through the Internet. Play your CD player or iPod through the Aux-In socket and connect your recorder or additional equipment to the Line Out sockets--and if you need some extra sleep time the sleep control and snooze timers provide that extra control. Plays all the popular digital music codecs such as MP3, AAC, WMA, Real Audio and others.

Cta Digital Global Net Internet Radio Alarm Clock

cross between computer and radio, (What's this?) This radio works great at times, but just like a computer it will lock up and have trouble getting the feed. I would definately recommend not trying to use it wireless - a wired connection will give far fewer problems. Sometimes it works great and sometimes it does not work at all. Reminds me of computers, frustrating at times, great other times.
A Great Global Adventure at an Attractive Price, This is my first Internet radio, and I seem to have made a good choice----very nice sound at a reasonable price, and a handsome little unit to boot. I have an iMac G5 and a Linksys WRT54G wifi router and the radio pulls in all the stations both upstairs in my study (where the router sits) and downstairs and around several corners in the master bedroom. This is a compact little unit with a single speaker, and the sound is, to me, impressive. Not base heavy at all, so voices come through cleanly, but music also has a rich, full sound to it. Most impressive for such a small speaker, and the sound through headphones is excellent.
Internet Radio in a relatively simple box, (What's this?) Though the software+PC solution is more coherent than it used to be, I feel that it's simpler to use dedicated devices like those that make use of Reciva and vTuner solutions. Radios like this one, the ASUS and the Grace are all under $200, making them much less expensive than the previous generation of Wi-Fi radios.

I've had this device for about 3 days. The radio works fine with MP3, Real, OGG, AAC and WMA streams. I haven't tried UPNP yet. Playing files from a USB Mass Storage device works, but pulling the power plug seems to be the only way to force it to re-scan UMS devices. The same goes for updating the radio after making first entries in My Streams, My Podcasts etc. at the Reciva website. Subsequent entries don't require any plug-pulling.

Podcast listening is easy, though there's no way to pause, rewind or fast forward. Having a remote is nice. Using the Reciva website is also nice, especially since I prefer to do text entry with a keyboard instead of using the knob and buttons on the radio. Entering a key for a Wi-Fi network still requires that. Some categories with hundreds of entries should be broken into subcategories.

The are so many different streams and podcasts out there that anybody looking for alternatives should have a ball with this radio.

    EDIT:

UPNP works. It can pause and stop, but doesn't fast forward or rewind. FLAC files will play, too.
CTA Digital Global Net Internet Radio Alarm Clock..., (What's this?) I had made this purchase not having any great expectations; this approach may have contributed to my overall favorable impressions of this item.
I am not an audiophile and do nto pretend to be one - this radio does not compare with the sound quality of comparatively similar items offered by Bose and B&O; however, for the price and considering what the radio is intended to do, I do not foresee that anyone will be dissappointed with purchasing it.
The sound quality is excellent (although not "outstanding"); thae packaging was high-quality and the radio with the remote function flawlessly. The photos of this item do not represent the amount of light emitted by the LCD display...it is not an unpleasant blue-coloured hue; however, it would be nice if this had a variation of a rheostat to control it, because if you have the radio in a darkened room, and, if you are bothered by any sort of brightly illuminated display, then I sense that you will want to rely on the remote and keep the radio at some other location so that this will not bother you...

USB Worldwide TV & Radio Internet IP Player.

WORST PRODUCT EVER!!!!, (What's this?) I bought this USB TV/radio tuner because I wanted to try something new. Instead, what I got was a piece of junk that won't automatically start. I tried everything to make this start but it still wouldn't. I am not just calling this product a bad product, I am calling this the worst product I have ever bought.
