Disappointing, (What's this?) Not easy to set up. "Stations" have to be on the manufacturer's list. If you have a favorite not on it, you have to ask them to include it; they will decide whether to make it available to you. I got this to listen to my private stream; Oh well. I will NEVER buy this mfr's products again.
Great Radio, poor wifi range, (What's this?) I ordered one of these refurbished from Grace, and although it functions perfectly and has wonderful sound with a well-designed remote control, it only works about 15-20 feet from my wifi modem. I have another Grace table radio model IR2000, and it works 40-50 feet away.
I returned it to Grace for warranty service, they replace the wifi stick and another board, but exact same weak wifi reception.
Fantastic for Internet radio!, (What's this?) I got this as a gift for my dad and nearly didn't give it to him! I loaded up Sirius and Pandora so he could plug it in and go - it is awesome! Everything works great! You can have the grace website sync your pandora to the device, but you have to put your sirius info into it directly - and the scroll wheel can be a bit tedious, but once its in, its set.
Everything I could have asked for, (What's this?) Had tried 3 other internet radios--one stopped working after a couple of weeks--one couldn't access the stations I wanted--and one other drained batteries so fast it was useless. This has performed incredibly well--it is even refurbished and looks and works like a new one--the built in rechargeable battery is outstanding. Would recommend to anyone.
Great little device with some minor inconveniences, (What's this?) i bought two of these refurbished from Grace thru amazon for $69 each. they are really nice units. while not as complete as the squeezebox (i had one and returned it), i think it sounds better, has a nice remote, and can run on rechargeable "AA" batteries. i can't seem to figure out how to get itunes to play on it (Grace told me it will-just not sure how to yet), but a lot of my purchased music is from amazon, so it will play on windows media player anyway. the menus are a bit quirky and it does take quite a few button pushes, but i find it isn't much worse than the squeezebox. it does have seperate sound adjustments-something i didn't find on the squeezebox.
A Good Choice for Clock Radio, (What's this?) This is a good item, fairly priced. The build quality is very nice, it set up and worked right out of the box, the audio quality is quite good for a small box, the capabilities are extensive, the online support is strong and the usability is good--not perfect but pretty good. It seems able to tune in almost any internet radio source, it's optimized for things I subscribe to like Sirius and Pandora, and it has a comprehensive set of alarm settings. The negatives--for some unknown reason it buffers but fails to connect every time to some stations, despite a very strong WIFI signal, which makes using music a chancy thing for alarms, the small remote is necessary for almost all setup menus, and the LCD display is so large and bright that it is like a nightlight, illuminating the bedroom, even at the lowest setting. This last fault appears to be endemic among all such radio displays, and some users report getting good results with dimming it via window film, so I would not rule out buying this item for that reason alone.
Technically not as good as computer for net listening, This 'net radio is my first experience with listening to 'net audio on a self contained radio. I've been using for years a series of laptops to tune to 'net stations.
At first, I was very happy with the Grace Allegro and the online method of adding stations. But, as I added more stations, I noticed that the Allegro would not be able to connect to some of them, such as one of the BBC stations. Moving over to my laptop, I was easily able to bring these stations up to play within seconds. Meanwhile, the Grace was in 'connecting' or 'buffering' for many minutes on these same stations. For example, just as I write this, the Allegro took 6 minutes to connect to a 'net station that my laptop connected to in 30 seconds. Since Graces uses the Reciva internet radio service, maybe Reciva is using less than best URLS for the stations, but still, 6 minutes compared to 30 seconds is significant, esp for major stations such as the BBC.
I don't have any experience other than with this Grace Allegro model, but the above is what I've experienced in three days of use. I have been happy, once connected, that the Grace Allegro holds the stream and will retry if the stream drops off, which happens with 'net listening.
Just What I Wanted, (What's this?) Got this radio a few days ago, so far it has been exactly what I wanted. We live away from most radio stations of my taste and no NPR! I wanted something to listen to the radio like I used to, like on the back porch, not on the computer. The radio seems pretty robust and nicely finished. It sounds very good for a small table radio, volume is more than adequate for what I want. Menus are easy to figure out. Good remote control. If you are able to set up any other modern device this will be easy for you to set up but if your VCR is still flashing "12:00" you might need some help. I have not checked out Pandora, etc. yet. Having a lot of fun searching out stations by location and genre, now I have far more stations than when I lived in a big city. I have already found a lot of interesting stations from all over. I would highly recommmend this radio.
A compact and powerful radio!, (What's this?) The Grace Allegro radio is a full feature packed internet radio.
It simply can not connect to my wifi, (What's this?) I should be an experienced wifi radio user and have used Mutant (-5) and Logitech for some time. With this GDI-IDR4000, I was hoping to have batterary-powered function along with alarm/timer and better sound quality.
