thoughts on radio, (What's this?)
This is the right internet radio for me, (What's this?) I've had this radio for 3 months now, replacing my Sanyo R227 (which I also reviewed). In a nutshell, this radio has all the features of the Sanyo, but better, and for the same cost or less. I can see the artist name and song title. I was able to immediately find my stations I had programmed from the Sanyo, and that was plus.
Good and bad, (What's this?) This is a small radio with small speakers so don't expect room-filling stero sound. It does what it can and for casual use it is very good. The manual has many mistakes which makes set-up an adventure, but once set-up, it works well. Since making a mistake during set-up is likely, customer service is vital ... and it is terrible !!!! Impossible to talk to a human; only email support. Very slow and when I did get an email from a human, the instructions were incomplete and in several cases just wrong. Something he said would take one step ended up taking 6 - which I had to discover myself. Now that it is up and running, I am happy with the purchase. If I had it to do over I would go with the C. Crane radio.
Not bad, (What's this?) I have been listening to Internet Radio on my PC for some time. I decided it would be neat to be able to listen in the garage, etc. I saw an advertisement for the Grace radio and did some research. Most was positive so I ordered it. I was a little surprised (and disappointed) that it doesn't have a line output so I could hook it to my stereo (it just drives speakers directly). Other than than, it works fine and is about what I expected. For the price, this is a good deal.
Great Radio (90% of the time), (What's this?) We bought one of these radio's to play through wifi in our small bakery so that we could set it in something without running wires all over the place.
Simple and easy to use!, (What's this?) I have had this wifi radio for about a year now. I decided to buy this due to the poor reception of FM stations in my area. It has been a joy. Pandora, NPR, BBC, etc with a touch of the button. Also, the documentation with the product is excellent. I highly recommend this radio.
Very useful item, I've had this item since March 2010 and I love it. I also am a Pandora One subscriber. If you like music and don't like the hassle of constantly looking for CD's, this is the unit for you.
I use this more than my expensive stereo system now, cuz it is so much more convenient. You really need your own wifi to make this work in a practical way. Make sure you get the updates.
Works as promised!, (What's this?) This unit replaced a Sanyo which did not work correctly, despite a firmware update. This also uses the Reciva software, but it really works on this one. Setup was easy and pretty intuitive: didn't need the book. I am able to access my shared music on the computer, and the unit shows up on my computer as an available media device. Another feature which did not work on the Sanyo but which is working great on this is 365Live music. The remote is very nice.
One or two minuses: the backlight display is really bright, even set down to 1. The lowest volume setting could be lower.
Don't buy this product, (What's this?) Before I bought this, I had a Tangent Quattro wi-fi radio that also had a few, very rare, stability issues, but it worked very well for three years with minimal problems, until it just died.
I believe that stability is an issue in most wi-fi radios, and especially those that use the Reciva system. According to the blogs at the Reciva website, many Reciva radios have a dongle that does not work with the Wireless N protocol, and can suffer instability even if your next door neighbor uses Wireless N for her wi-fi network.
I bought this item after reading the reviews, knowing that it might have some problems. The first one I bought simply would not start up. It would seem to start, log on to my network, and sometimes even connect to a station for a minute or two. Then it would restart, and restart, and restart.
I returned the first one for exchange. The second one worked better. Still many restarts, but it actually worked for two days without restarting. Then it would restart, restart, restart. After a few weeks, I sent it back for a refund.
Despite my terrible experience with this radio, and the lack of any customer support from Grace, I want to commend Amazon.com for its excellent and responsive handling of my problems. I've never returned an item from Amazon.com due to defects until I bought this radio, and I was impressed with the customer service provided by Amazon.com in this case.
My new favorite consumer electronic toy., (What's this?) I read alot about internet radios before I picked this one by Grace. I love pandora and NPR and this radio is perfect for both of those. I did not like using my laptop or PC hooked up to the stereo system for alot of reasons. At the time none of my other dvrs or blu rays or tvs could get internet radio (now my tivo works with pandora)
I could get NPR on the radio in the car but not in the house - until now.
It was easy to setup.
